COOLRUNNINGS — Chorus

COOLRUNNINGS’ Dracula is Only the Beginning, besides having one of the best album covers I’ve seen in recent memory, is really, really good (note the italics). This should come as no surprise to those who’ve been following their outpour of singles and EP’s, from June’s Babes Forever to Brandon Biondo’s electro-sleaze jams as WALSH. The debut balances some familiar tracks (“Brunettes”, “Thunderbirds”) with a heap of fresh material, some of which is their best work to date. Impose already covered the magnificent glam rock send-up “C.K.S.F.A.R.” (my favorite of the bunch), but opener “Chorus” is no less worthy of a feature; setting things off on a high note, it packs all the jittery, foot-tapping rhythms and spiraling melodies we’ve come to adore these guys for. If this is only the beginning, I’ll be patiently waiting for whatever comes next.
